Linnaeus, the plants and the animals

Linnaeus’ major interest was to study nature with its plants and animals. He often expressed his fascination about the vast number of life forms he could find. He saw it as his task to describe and systematise the different species, something he did with glowing enthusiasm.

The systematic work of Linnaeus was the basis for continued research in biology. What does the work of Linnaeus mean to us today? How much have new techniques and new knowledge influenced modern research? Let us take a closer look at Linnaeus and the biological diversity. We shall see examples of what results he reached and how modern research has increased our knowledge.
